Mission Statement

The Museum of the Computer Keyboard explores the evolution of the typewriters, it’s relationship with the the computer keyboard, and the many layouts and designs invented in the past and present for technology enthusiasts.

  • Charles Latham Sholes

    Born February 14, 1819, Sholes is the man who invented the modern keyboard and the QWERTY Layout June 23, 1868.

  • QWERTY Layout

    The QWERTY layout is widely used today, pre-loaded onto many devices. It is known as the "Universal Keyboard".

  • Computer Keyboard

    As advancement in technology continued, the Typewriter followed. The Typewriter's layout was used on classic computers and was once able to be converted into a computer keyboard.

  • Virtual Keyboards

    With the ivention of touchscreens and want for space-saving minimalism, inventors designed a virtual keyboard to be used on the touchscreens of mobile devices.
